Systems and Controls Internship
During my time at Rolls Royce as a Systems and Controls Engineering Intern, I developed a deep fascination for the field of controls. This experience not only solidified my interest but also provided me with valuable insights into applied controls and simulation on a large industrial scale. Working in the Naval Marine sector allowed me to engage in diverse disciplines such as controls response plotting, part procurement, and the development of workflow streamlining tools. Collaborating with a talented team of remote engineers was an exciting challenge and gave me a glimpse into the future of engineering.
During this internship, I leveraged MATLAB, Simulink, with Excel integrations to tackle complex data parsing challenges. These customized tools enhanced the capability and efficiency of engineers and purchasing teams to monitor and manage an extensive inventory of replacement parts. They facilitated the identification and analysis of part issues and their dispositions, while also enabling accurate prediction of replacement and failure rates for a wide range of engine components while enabling optimized real-time stocking at ports for active Naval vessels. Ultimately, these advancements enabled the navy and the Rolls Royce technicians working on the ships to maximize their operational and repair efficiency during off-dock periods and get back to mission critical tasks.
My role at a glance:
Automated Transient and Steady State system response plotting in MATLAB and Simulink streamlining simulation reporting and eliminating cross-plot inconsistencies
Developed an enhanced user interface in MATLAB and Excel to customize 10 plotting parameters including axis and plot labeling, response multipliers, and unit conversions
Tracked and managed 14000+ parts and products by establishing a comprehensive Spare Parts Application Data List for Naval Marine engines enhancing part traceability and eliminating cross-system BOM variance
